
About Me
Crystal Hu is a multidisciplinary documentary filmmaker, composer, writer, and visual artist. Currently, she is an M.S. candidate in the Documentary Specialization at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. She holds a Bachelor of Humanities and Arts (BHA) with University Honors in Film & Visual Media and Art from Carnegie Mellon University, along with a minor in Music Technology.
Crystal previously interned at NBCUniversal, where she gained comprehensive experience in end-to-end video production at CNBC’s Global Headquarters. During her tenure, she led the UI/UX design team that won the NBCUniversal Media Tech Internship Case Competition. Her technical leadership also extends to live production; as the Head of Livestream for Lunar Gala - Pittsburgh’s largest fashion show - she managed a cinematography team and directed multi-camera switching for the live broadcast.
An award-winning creator, Crystal has received recognition from national and international film festivals for her original shorts and visual art. A true multi-hyphenate, she also scores all of her own films, blending her musical and cinematic visions. Crystal is dedicated to telling complex human stories through a lens of technical precision and artistic empathy.
