About Me
Crystal Hu is a multidisciplinary documentary filmmaker, composer, writer, and visual artist. Currently, she is an M.S. candidate in the Documentary Specialization at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. She holds a Bachelor of Humanities and Arts (BHA) with University Honors in Film & Visual Media and Art from Carnegie Mellon University, along with a minor in Music Technology.
At the 2026 News & Documentary Emmy Awards, Crystal was the Emmy Envoy bringing out trophies and escorting winners on stage. She previously interned at NBCUniversal, where she gained comprehensive experience in end-to-end video production at CNBC’s Global Headquarters. During her tenure, she led the team as the lead UI/UX designer that won the NBCUniversal Media Tech Internship Case Competition. Her technical leadership also extends to live production; as the Head of Livestream for Lunar Gala 2025 - Pittsburgh’s largest fashion show - she directed multi-camera switching and managed a cinematography team for the live broadcast.
An award-winning creator, Crystal has received recognition from national and international film festivals for her original shorts and visual art. A true multi-hyphenate, she also scores all of her films, blending her musical and cinematic visions. By weaving diverse disciplines together, Crystal brings a multidimensional perspective to content producing that uncovers visual, sonic, and structural connections others might overlook, resulting in a unique storytelling texture rooted in both technical precision and artistic empathy.
